Punjab Government and MCA responsible for the state of disrepair and total mismanagement of the historic Ram Bagh
Amritsar, 9 March ( )- Taking up issue of the state of disrepair and total mismanagement of the restoration work going on in the local historic Ram Bagh, Amritsar Vikas Manch held the Punjab Government and the local Municipal Corporation responsible. A Manch delegation consisting of Patrons Prof. Mohan Singh and Dr. Charanjit Singh Gumtala led by the President Mr. Manmohan Singh Brar approached Mr. S.N. Kesarwani, the superintending archeologist at the site who informed the delegates that the 678 Kanal 12 Marla national monument was put on the list of Archeological Survey of India on 15-10-2004, but to date, is still under the Municipal Corporation Amritsar and he said that it is the Municipal Corporation Amritsar and the Punjab Government who is carrying out the Projects of roads in the bagh, although the situation demands that this specialized task be carried out by experts of the ASI. Unfortunately, in spite of reminders by the Central Government, the charge of the historic bagh is not being handed over to the ASI which at present is entrusted with only six structures viz. The Gate, The Royal Palace, The Royal Bath, Chhoti Baradari, Machhi Ghar and the Watch Towers. According to Mr. Kesarwani, the restoration work of the Royal Bath will be taken up next year. It is unfair, Mr. Kesarwani said, to defame the ASI for the state of affairs because the Bagh doesn’t fall under its charge. Mr. C Dass Attri Senior Conservative was also present.
The Manch leaders have appealed to Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu MP to use his good offices and get the change of the entire Ram Bagh Complex transferred to ASI along with the project of restoration. This would save the Municipal Corporation Amritsar unnecessary expense and labour and also ensure quality restoration by ASI experts.
