CHANDIGARH: Heat wave conditions on Wednesday intensified in the region, with sweltering heat sweeping Amritsar in Punjab at 44.4 degrees
While Amritsar was hotter by five degrees than normal, intense heat also prevailed in Ludhiana, which recorded a maximum of 43 degrees celsius, up by four degrees. There was no respite for Patiala residents either where mercury shot to 43.5 degrees celsius, four above normal, the Met said here.
Chandigarh recorded the season's highest maximum so far as mercury here rose to 42.2 degrees celsius, three degrees above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala experienced a hot day at 42 degrees celsius, up by three degrees while the high at Karnal settled at 41.8 C, two above normal. Hisar was hotter by a degree at 41 C.
Jammu also braved a hot day recording a high of 43.3 C, three above normal.
Meanwhile, the Met here said that maximum temperature today also witnessed an increase in the hills, with Shimla recording a high of 29.5 degrees celsius, six above normal. Una was the hottest place in H.P. recording a high of 42.4 C while Dharamsala also registered an above normal maximum at 34.8 C.
