Punjab Government step motherly treating Amritsar International Airport - AVM
Amritsar, 23 July ( ) - Amritsar Vikas Manch has blamed the Punjab Govt. of biased and step motherly treatment towards the Amritsar International Airport. In a joint press note Prof. Mohan Singh Manch Patron and Sh. Amrit Lal Mannan General Secretary said that Punjab Govt. is worried for the Mohali Airport and is least bothered for the Amritsar airport. The Manch leaders added that the Punjab Govt. instantly provided eleven hundred Crores rupees in the budget for the Mohali Airport but has not bothered to spare evien a single penny for Amritsar Airport . the Punjab Govt has acquired 300 acres of land for the Mohali Airport at an exorbitant price of 450 Crores in a record time of three to four months and handed it over to the Airport Authority of India. While on the other hand the required acquisition of only 44 acres of land costing only 20-22 Crores for the Amritsar airport is hanging for the last two years, thanks to the anti Amritsar policy of the Punjab Govt.
One fails to understand the over anxious stance of the Punjab Govt. for the introduction of International flight from Chandigarh while both the Chandigarh administration and Haryana Govt. are silent or not so active. The Mohali airport will not be beneficial to the Punjab State rather it will encourage shifting of Punjab Industry to Baddi and other areas of Himachal and Haryana. The biased attitude of the Punjab Govt. is also evident from the fact that Punjab Govt. is taking series of meetings at chief secretary level for the introduction of International flights from Chandigarh. But the Govt. has not taken even a single meeting for the resumption of Singapore and Jet Airways flights from Amritsar Airport. Some even doubt intention of the Punjab Govt. that it may persuade Singapore Airlines to start its flights from Chandigarh.
Redressal of problems being faced by the Amritsar Airport has not taken with the A.A.I, Customs and the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The matter of reducing parking and landing charges, compensation of air cargo complex and other issues related to the new terminal building have not been redressed. The Manch leaders have appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister to prevail upon Singapore Airlines and Jet Airways to resume their flights from Amritsar International Airports and also take up the other matters of the Amritsar Airport with the Central Govt.
