Seminar on the conservation of the heritage of Punjab held in Khalsa College Amritsar.
Amritsar 7 February:K halsa College Amritsar and Amritsar Vikas Manch jointly held a seminar on the conservation of the precious heritage of Punjab in which the former Divisional Commissioner of Ferozepur divisions Mr. Kulbir Singh Sidhu, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Amritsar. Mr. D.P.S. Kharbanda, Principal Khalsa College Dr. Daljeet Singh, Punjab State Convener INTACH Dr. Sukhdev Singh and AVM president Mr. Manmohan Singh Brar formed the presidium. Mr. Sidhu stressed on the need to protect and preserve the heritage robes, weapons and monuments and urgent steps to be taken to retrieve symbols of our culture lying in foreign lands e.g. the plumage of Sri Guru Gobind Singh and the throne of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Besides, our history makes should be given due space and importance in the history and literature of Punjab which unfortunately dwells more on other cultures. Dr Daljit Singh lamented on the plight of the sacred spot in Puri (Orissa) where Guru Nanak had composed his well known ʽaartiʼ singing of the sphere harmony of the cosmos. Dr. Iqbal Kaur Saund former Chairperson of Bhagat Naam Dev Chair, GNDU spoke on the wide sweep of the term culture. Mr. Amrit Lal Mannan, who was managing the stage proceedings also informed the audience about the activities and achievements of the Manch like its initiatives in evicting animals dairies from within the walled city as also in the up gradation of the Amritsar Airport. Dr. Charanjit Singh Gumtala had earlier introduced the Chief guest and detailed Dr. Kulbir Singhʼs contribution in his insightful researches on heritage. Mr. Prabhdyal Singh Randhawa wanted the list of martyrs in history to also include at least twelve men who lost their lives a few days prior to the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh in 1919.
           Prof. Mohan Singh Patron of the Manch presented a vote of thanks to the scholarly audience of college professors, members of Nari Chetna Manch, lawyers, doctors and students.
